Cycling in the between the cork oaks, olive trees and storks in the Alentejo
Alentejo is one of those places in Europe that are becoming rare. The feeling of space is tremendous. The coastline still preserved.
We’ve created a route including 3 very nice and charming rural hotels , all run by a family. They all offer tailor made service in their own unique familiar atmospere. You will be catered for breakfast and dinner. You can ask for a packed lunch.
The concept of this trip is to show the unspoilt nature of the Alentejo from countryside to the coastline, riding 90% on good tarmac roads. The roads have almost no traffic at all and the landscape is very peaceful with herds of sheep or cattle, changing from undulating inland to a more flat area near the coast. This circuit includes a huge diversity of landscapes: from rice fields, dams, undulating scenery with olive trees and old stands of cork oaks on the countryside, to small fisherman villages\sea resorts, bays, and high cliffs at the coast. You will start inland at our B&B Verdemar, then to Tres Marias near the traditional village of Porto Côvo and end up in the village of Vila Nova de Milfontes. On the days you don’t change hotel we offer circular routes from 25-45 km. On this days you can also take a day off. The routes connecting the hotels never exceeds 40 Km. Luggage is being transported.
